The McDowell Monthly Measures - September 2009 - Issue No. 21

It has been months since Ihave been able to post anything! And I had forgotten about blogger.com.

Our summer was FULL of surprises! Some good. Some not so good. But God has been the one constant in our lives! And for that I will be eternally grateful!

Teddy Bear had his foot surgery in July of this year. They found a tendon that was torn in 3 places, from top to bottom. He went through 2 casts and is now in a mechanical boot. He goes back to San Antonio in November of this year to have the boot unlocked, so it will allow him to flex that ankle to a certain degree. He is now off of short-term disability (Halliburton offers through UNUM. And is now going through the process of applying for long-term disability. Veteran's Affairs is still covering all of his medical expenses, for his back, foot, etc. For that we are grateful! He is finding it difficult...not doing much. And really wanting to be back at work full time. But he is coping rather well.

David was withdrawn from Alice Christian School back in February of this year.
We homeschooled him through the last stretch of '08 school year, as well as the summer.
He started his 1st year in public school on August 24th, 2009. He is now attending the same public school as his younger sister and younger brother. And is doing very well!
We prayed daily over him, concerning his education/behavior/repor with teachers/etc.
And God answered all of those prayers...well above & beyond our expectations!
He has the teacher his younger sister had last year. We know him well. And feel he is exactly what David needs @ this point in his life. David has struggle with many issues in his 8 years. But he has made huge progress, especially over the past 2 years! He is now sleeping through the night. Do you have any idea how stressful it is to have a child never sleep through the night...for 8 years straight?! LOL Bedwetting is still a challenge we are working on.
But he is making progress in that department as well! He is learning the public school's
(very foreign) methods quickly! Even quicker than I have been able to. LOL
David is listening attentively to his teachers & socializing well with his peers!
If you told us 3 years ago that he would be where he is (developmentally, physically & emotionally)...we would have said that's unrealistic. But Praise God, ALL things ARE possible to those who love the Lord!
Ramona is doing very well. She still struggles with talking too much in class. But that has always been the only complaint from teachers. So, we are grateful! ;0) She is blossoming into a beautiful, young lady! She is all legs...as are all 3 of our children. LOL Her hair has been growing out (since the last time she decided to cut it on her own). Ramona is very social, engaging and articulate. She is a pretty strong reader now. And loves to learn! She loves to help around the house and has begun to take an interest in Watercolor (since her mother & grandmother have taken it up). She finally got the technically correct way of swimming down this summer. And we believe she will be a great athlete, in the near future!

Teddy Markus AKA Lil' Teddy...or "Brother" as he is called by his older brother and sister...
is doing well. He is in that awkward stage. He is becoming extremely independant. And a bit obstanant at times! He is testing limits all over again. And becoming very verbal about his feelings and thoughts. He is definitely coming into his own! He is constantly in the shadow of his older sister and brother...which sometimes...can be very frustrating for him. But they are usually good about including him. And for that I am glad!

I decided to go back to college, and started classes August 27th of this year. I am currently taking MicroComputer Application, Family & Community (TECA), Child Guidance & Watercolor. I am really enjoying being in college, the 2nd time around...now that I am older.
I am really appreciating it much more. It is definitely not easy. And in some aspects, much harder than before (having children and a business now). But well worth it. I feel I am enriching my personal life. And I feel a great sense of accomplishment that I haven't had before!

I have also become part of the BAFA Praise Team (a new church in Alice, TX)!
I have become close to the other members of the band. And couldn't imagine my life without them in it!  The process of preparing the past couple months...to help lead BAFA in P&W...has been awesome! Not easy; but neccessary and progressive. With the help of 2 wonderful, anointed worship leaders...I have finally been able to overcome certain obstacles I have struggled with, for many years . I look forward to each rehearsal and service. And am so thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord and the community in this way!

My business is starting to pick up! More and more people are learning about "Bath of Sheba" through word of mouth. A local business in town has also agreed to start carrying my products in her store! YES!!!

In between 13 hours of college courses, hours of labs attached to those courses...Teddy's recovery, the kids schooling, church and my business....I have never been busier in my entire life (no exaggeration)! And this past week has been ROUGH! And we all know Satan attacks you the most when you're doing God's will! So, it has been a very emotional few days for me! But yesterday & today the Holy Spirit has REALLY been ministering to me. And I am feeling MUCH more hopeful about this next week! I am still recovering from being sick for almost a month straight (been a cycle for a couple years now). And still very behind in assignments. But God confirmed to Teddy & I today, that His eye IS on the sparrow. And He IS watching over us!

For those of you who have called, text, emailed & lifted us up in prayer...Thank you!
It does not go unnoticed! And you do not realize just how grateful we truly are!!!

Have a productive & sprit-filled week!
